Official Recall Data Sources

Official government data sources used by Recall Lookup USA, including NHTSA and openFDA enforcement reports.

NHTSA vehicle recalls

Vehicle recall lookups use the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall data by model year, make and model. Users should still use NHTSA’s VIN-specific recall tool when checking a particular vehicle.

FDA enforcement reports

Food, drug and medical device recall pages use the FDA Recall Enterprise System data exposed through openFDA enforcement-report endpoints. These datasets contain publicly releasable recall enforcement records and are published on a weekly update cycle.

openFDA states that enforcement-report data should not be treated as a live public-alert or recall-lifecycle service, and that a published recall status may remain unchanged after classification. For current health or product actions, verify the official notice and the recalling firm’s instructions.

Source verification

Each record displays its official identifier. Recall Lookup USA is a secondary reference layer, so important ownership, health, safety or remedy decisions should be confirmed against the current government or manufacturer notice.
